Health Insurance Checklist | Lisa Oguin

Another one of our health insurance agents, Lisa Oguin, lays out a checklist for what you need to know as you search for health care coverage. She starts by recommending that you first look at the latest insurance offerings because there are new things that come up every year. Then, she says you should look at your current healthcare needs and your upcoming healthcare needs.

Past Coverage

Next, Lisa shares what you should bring when you have an appointment with one of our agents. You should gather information about your previous coverage, which doctors you’ve seen, and what prescriptions you need. You should also consider whether or not you want to stay in the same network as your primary care provider (PCP) or a current specialist.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Knowing your prescription formulations is especially important because you might end up having to pay out of pocket for expensive prescriptions if you don’t have the right coverage.

In Summary

  • Review new insurance options
  • Anticipate upcoming healthcare needs
  • Consider your past coverage
  • Evaluate which providers you prefer
  • List your desired benefits
  • Gather and list your prescriptions

With all of this information, you are prepared to meet with your insurance advisor! Give us a call and set up an appointment. Let us help you find the plan with the exact coverage you need.

Getting Started With Health Insurance | Josh Borders

Health insurance agent, Josh Borders, answers common questions about getting started with health insurance.

When to Sign Up

First, he answers the question, “when should I start shopping for Medicare?” And the answer is around three months before you turn 65.

You do have a total of seven months to settle on a Medicare Advantage plan. Those months being the three months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and the three months after your 65th birthday. If you miss this window of time, insurance providers will usually add extra fees to your monthly charges.

Costs of Advantage Plans

Next, he addresses the costs associated with plans outside of Original Medicare and why they’re necessary.

He explains that when you call Buffalo Health Advisors we can help you find plans with no premiums, as well as plans that can even pay back some of your Part B premiums. If one of those plans would not meet your needs, you may benefit from a supplemental plan. Our advisors will review these plans with you and tell you the costs associated with these options.

Contacting a Health Insurance Agent

Then, he goes over how to contact one of our agents, as well as some of the appointment options we have available. We are able to meet with you in our office, over the phone, and even come to visit you in your home at your convenience.

He also explains that when you work with us, we will never try to sell you on a plan you don’t want. We’re a group of health insurance agents, who basically work for you to get you the exact coverage you need.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

Josh also addresses the following questions:

  • “What carriers do you work with?”
  • “How do your partnerships work?”
  • “Can you help me keep my doctor?”
  • “How much time should I allow for an appointment?”

We hope these answers help you get to know us better as well as what we do. We look forward to meeting with you and helping you get the coverage you need. Don’t hesitate to set up an appointment with an insurance advisor. The benefits you need are only a phone call away.
